Student Night at the Opera

Educate through experience…allow your students the opportunity to learn about the timeless art form of opera through Manitoba Opera’s Student Night at the Opera.

What is Student Night at the Opera?

A sneak preview of the production: the excitement of live opera with costumes, sets, full make-up and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

An opportunity to see opera in the making.

The rehearsal is open to school bands and choirs, private music students, drama students or any other group of interested students. There are only two requirements:

A minimum of four students can attend with no more than one adult chaperone for each four students;

Students must be 21 years and under or have valid student ID.

Please note: As the artists are in final preparation for Opening Night, they may not sing in full voice.

Why Opera?

Opera is a great teaching tool; explore geography, history, math, other cultures and languages through opera.

Opera fosters an appreciation for music, theatre and the arts that will last a lifetime.

Opera challenges and expands critical thinking and comprehension skills.

Will my students understand the opera?

English translations (surtitles) are projected above the stage. This allows students to enjoy opera in its original language, while still having complete comprehension of the story.

Manitoba Opera provides a Study Guide free of charge that will provide you with ideas on incorporating opera into your regular curriculum.

When are the Student Dress Rehearsals and how do I order tickets?
